In Search of Light at the End of the Tunnel
The shipping industries have been under sustained challenges since the 2008 financial crisis. Some signs of recovery over the past few years turned were not as sustained as expected due to stagnant demand, oversupply, and the inflow of speculative investment in the shipping sector, all at the times when the markets were expected to rise.
Therefore, a few key questions need to be asked:
1. Over the next five to ten years, what hope is there for the recovery in economic and trading, which would lead to the recovery of shipping and shipbuilding industries?
2. Will China continue to lead that recovery, following its economic reform and new Free Trade Zone policy?
3. Will new rules and regulations and relevant technologies be the solutions for the oversupply of ships as well as the make-or-break shipbuilding industries?
On 14th October, 2014, the 5th International Shipping Strategic Development Forum will again gather around 400 top industrial leaders and expertise, from around the world, to discuss these issues in depth and search for the light at the end of the tunnel.
